Google has unveiled its vision for making artificial intelligence even more useful for people, businesses and communities.

From launching generative AI to enhancing products like Gmail, Maps and Supercharging Search with generative AI, Google is using AI to improve user experience and deliver new capabilities. Let’s dive into some of the most notable new features.

Gmail – Google I/O

At Gmail, generative AI has given rise to the «Help me write» feature. Now, when you receive an email and need to compose a specific response, you can simply indicate what you want in the email and the AI will generate a complete draft that fits your needs.

For example, if your flight is canceled and you want to request a full refund, «Help me write» will help you compose a persuasive email. This feature will be available soon at Workspace and will continue to improve over time.

What’s new in Google Maps

As for Google Maps, a new immersive view for routes has been introduced. This feature uses AI to create detailed and realistic representations of the places you want to go

Now, before you decide which route to take, you can preview your trip and explore different options. You will also be able to get additional information, such as air quality, traffic and weather, all integrated into the immersive view. This feature will be soon and will be launched in 15 cities, including London, New York, Tokyo and San Francisco.

What does Google I/O tell us about Google Photos?

Google Photos has also seen improvements thanks to AI. With the new Magic Editor experience, you’ll be able to do much more than just search and organize your photos. The Magic Eraser feature will allow you to remove unwanted elements from your images, such as people or distracting objects.

In addition, later this year, the Magic Editor will be released, which will use generative AI and semantic understanding to give you even more editing features. For example, you will be able to reposition people in photos, add elements that were not in the original shot, and even adjust lighting consistently throughout the image. These enhancements will make your photos even more impressive and personalized.

PaLM 2

In addition to these product enhancements, Google has also introduced two key advances in AI: PaLM 2 and Gemini.

PaLM 2 is the latest AI model developed by Google, offering exceptional fundamental capabilities in a wide variety of sizes and knowledge areas.

From lighter and faster models for mobile devices to stronger models for logic and reasoning, PaLM 2 adapts to different needs and is available in more than 100 languages. Specialized variants of PaLM 2 have also been introduced, such as Sec-PaLM for security and Med-PaLM 2 for medical knowledge. These fine-tuned models deliver high-level results and are driving significant advances in their respective fields.

Gemini

On the other hand, Gemini is a next-generation multimodal model. It is training from the ground up and focuses on being highly efficient in tool and API integrations. It is also designed to support future innovations, such as in-memory and scheduling.

AI Responsibility – Artificial Intelligence

As it moves to improve AI models, Google is also deeply committed to AI accountability. Developing tools, such as watermarking and metadata, to identify synthetically generated content and ensure its integrity. These techniques make it possible to maintain additional and important information in AI-generated content and files.

Google Labs and its new Generative Search Experience

Google offers a new way to preview some of the experiences in Workspace and other products. Now, even if you don’t have the keywords to describe what you’re looking for, you can search for anything with Google Lens

In fact, Lens is used more than 12 billion visual searches each month, a 4x increase in just two years. The combination of Lens with multimodality resulted in multi-search, which allows them to search using both an image and text.

Understanding this, artificial intelligence has transformed searching, allowing us to ask more complex questions without relying so much on keywords. The results include a highlight at the top with links to different websites, and when clicked, we get detailed information without entering any website.

In addition, when searching for products, AI displays relevant features and options with images. Traditional results will still exist but will require subscribing to Google Labs. Follow-up questions are also expected to be implemented to continue the conversation instead of starting a new search.

In SEO terms, the focus will be on answer engine optimization (AEO) due to the rise of SEO by voice. All this is done to provide the best user experience.

What’s new in Android

In addition, Google has integrated advances in AI into computing platforms, such as Android. They can make your phone even more personalized. New features include Creative text Compose, Cinematic Wallpapers and AI-generated Wallpapers. Ensuring a unique Android experience that reflects each user’s style and preferences.
